Massages and the circulatory system

Circulation radically influences physical condition in general; Reduced blood flow due to poor circulation can lead to a state of constant fatigue and weakness in the body. This condition can generate a wide variety of symptoms that can be associated with other diseases or result in the unintentional trigger for some other chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, varicose veins and gout, in addition to considerably increasing the likelihood of degenerative heart disease.

Symptoms: they can be generalized; until the problem moves to the chronic phase in which it can be detected without being confused with symptoms of other diseases; so it is difficult to diagnose and medicate effectively, but the most common thing is that it manifests much earlier, in a focused way, especially for people who perform repetitive tasks or who have a job that makes them sit most of the day, they may present irregularity in circulation only in specific areas of the body presenting symptoms such as:

  • Itching sensation in the extremities,
  • Cold skin, muscle cramps (feeling of pain or throbbing),
  • Swelling in the feet, ankles, and knees,
  • Spider veins
  • Brittle nails
  • Dry skin
  • Cramps
  • Numbness
  • Shortness of breath

Although it is well known that having an active lifestyle complemented with vascular exercise routines can greatly reduce the likelihood of poor circulation, it is important to understand that the current pace of life for the majority of the population is sedentary, which negatively affects circulation and fitness.

Why do we come to have a sedentary life?

The brain carries out multiple tasks and functions in an "unconscious" or natural and automatic way for which we do not have to stop to think, and over time biologically repetitive activities are associated with a normal part within the internal biological functions. That is why when people with circulatory problems are recommended to walk at least one hour a day, preferably in the morning hours, they should do it simultaneously with breathing exercises, so that awareness of the exercise is generated, causing a reaction in the brain that will send the necessary signals for vascular stimulation.

What about the aches and pains that have already developed?

Vascular exercises mitigate and stop the deterioration of the circulatory system, but this will not relieve the pain already present in the body, nor does it relieve the excess fatigue accumulated due to the effect of poor circulation since there is already an obstruction or accumulated stress in the valves that generate venous return. To improve this in a forceful way, the best thing to do is external stimulation, directly in the affected areas. Massages help improve blood and lymphatic circulation, which can be beneficial for treating various diseases, since the circulatory system allows immune system cells to travel as far as they are needed, directly affecting the condition of internal organs.

Effects of Massage on the Circulatory System

It increases circulation, since the pressure applied by the massage stimulates the dilation of the blood vessels, which facilitates the return of blood to the heart, helps oxygenation and nourishment of the tissues, reducing the effort of the heart when pumping the blood that is measured by the ejection fraction in each beat, it also reduces the probability of blood clots, optimizing cell metabolism and favoring the elimination of waste.

Massages and the lymphatic system.

A side benefit of improving circulation through massage is the improvement of the lymphatic system, which is responsible for the protection of the body, taking care of the internal response of the immune system against bacteria, viruses and foreign agents, in addition to taking care of internal purification by eliminating toxins and waste substances from the body.

The lymphatic system directly affects the condition of your skin, since good drainage is the best way to improve the condition of the skin, since it prevents the formation of bags and wrinkles and is enhanced when done with products with a high zinc content, which through massage will be absorbed at the cellular level, having prolonged antioxidant effects.
